Pioneer Harvest Festival & Picnic

Each year our church picnic is held in conjunction with the Pioneer Harvest Festival at General Coffee State Park.  The adults and the youngins all have a grand time watching costumed workers quilting, dipping candles, churning butter, baking biscuits, playing games, etc…

   

Jesse was especially interested in the outhouse this year…

he wanted to know where the toilet paper was kept???

The petting/feeding of the goats was a BIG hit!!!

And it’s always added fun when friends join us for our weekend adventures…
  

Family & friends are some of our biggest blessings!

And having Ay-ee with us always makes our adventures more entertaining!

And after a long, hot day of looking at the lake, what better way to cool off…

 

than in the pool!!!

Pioneer Harvest Festival

This past weekend was a busy one for us.   Friday afternoon we attended Trey’s belt ceremony & Sunday we attended a family reunion.  And Saturday.  Saturday we attended the Pioneer Harvest Festival at General Coffee State Park and our church picnic.  Boy, was it HOT!!!  But we had a fabulous time sawing logs, playing games, hiking trails, feeding the animals, swinging from the monkey bars, flying into the sky on the tire swing, and enjoying the fellowship.

Aunt Lindsey and Uncle Chris were off celebrating their anniversary so Hinson came to the picnic with Papa & Ah-ee!  The boys were super-duper excited!!!  They fought over who would push his stroller, wanted to stay right by his side, and were heart-broken when it was time for him to go home and take his nap.

Both boys got the chance to saw a log and bring their sawed off piece home.  They were very excited.  Mama was not as excited.  I got more of a workout than I was planning on!

My good friend Lora put it best when she said, “The dirty rings in Jesse's neck are my favorite.  That means he had a good time.”  And she is absolutely right.  When we left we were all tired, hot, sweaty, & very dirty, but we had the best time spending the day in the company of friends!

 
Two are better than one,  because they have a good return for their work:  If one falls down, his friend can help him up.  But pity the man who falls and has no one to help him up!

Heritage Festival

I have lived about 20 miles from Coffee General State Park for most of my life. I have been there for family reunions. Phil and I even held our wedding reception there. However, I am ashamed to admit, that I have never really explored the park and all that it has to offer. That all changed this past Saturday when our church held their annual picnic during the Heritage Festival at the park. There was so much to see and do...animals to pet, a Civil War re-enactment (which Trey LOVED!), sawing wood, a hay ride, bird show, hiking, and of course good food. We all had a fabulous time...Trey was busy talking about all the things he saw and did, Jesse loved the big pig, when the birds flew right over our heads at the bird show, Jesse squeaked and then said, "Let's do it again!", and surprisingly all the kids were clamoring to do the hike. It was a wonderful time and I can't wait to do it again next year!
