They made me a champ…

at SMAC Summer Camp!

SMAC summer camp was a huge success for my boys!  They had a great time each day and couldn’t wait to return the following day!  I wasn’t sure how long Jesse would hang in there but he did awesome, as did Trey, and I am so proud of them both!

 

The final day I watched as the boys tackled the obstacle course.  They had to run in and out between some tires, jump some “logs”, and power across the rolls.

You could just tell that they were having an amazing time!  However, I most impressed at the end when they jumped in and started helping clean up the obstacle course!  Without being asked!  Hmmm…I need to find out how Master Perkins gets that kind of cooperation:-)

 

Of course, my boys are always champs in my book!  Even when I do have to force them to clean up!

Orange Belt

Over the course of the past fall, winter, and spring, I managed to really neglect the blog!  There is much that I never told you, which I hate because not only does my blog keep our family and friends up to date on our little family, but it is also a memory album for our boys.  I want to include EVERYTHING in their online memory album, so you may be seeing some older posts.  Please bear with me!

One of the posts that I actually started but never finished or published was all the way back in February when Trey received his orange belt in martial arts class.

Two weeks ago we went to Trey’s orange belt test in martial arts.  As always, we were extremely proud of him and how far he has come with his martial arts. (The previous  two sentences were actually typed on March 11th.  The orange belt test occurred on February 25th and then we had to wait two long weeks to see if Trey had passed!  He received his new belt at the beginning of class on March 11th!)

 

Finally the test was over.  And the wait began…



After waiting TWO LONG WEEKS, Master Perkins finally presented Trey with his orange belt!!!  We were so excited that he had passed!

Kick, kick, double punch!

Both boys started SMAC camp today.  Trey has been taking mixed martial arts classes through SMAC  for two (?) years, but this is Jesse’s first experience.  He has been debating taking classes for a while now and after today, he is convinced…he loved it!!!

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

I was a bit concerned…Jesse can be quite the Mama’s boy (NOT that I’m complaining!!!) and can cling and whine a bit.  And this morning he told his Daddy, “I don’t want to go but Mama signed me up even though I told her I didn’t want to go.”  Of course, he did tell me he wanted to go.  And then he didn’t want to go.  And then he did.  And then he didn’t.  And then…well, you get the idea.  Jesse was definitely waffling on the idea!   However, when we got there, he didn’t even give me a second look…he went right out on the mat and started joining in.  I am so proud of him!

 

Of course, I’m sure it helped that Jesse had big brother there to show him the ropes!  Both boys had a blast and can’t wait till tomorrow.  And Jesse.  Well, he’s already been showing off the front kick and double punch that he learned today! 

Gold Belt

Two weeks ago (September 11, 2010) Trey went for his second belt test in his martial arts training. He had to do his basics and his forms, break a board with a punch and another one with a kick, and spar! I thought he performed very well and he broke both the boards. In fact, he broke the board with his punch so fast that I didn’t even have time to get my camera out (but luckily another Mama did)! But we had to wait two whole weeks to find out if he’d passed and become a GOLD BELT.

Yesterday, at the beginning of class, Master Perkins held the belt ceremony. And. TREY PASSED!!! We are all so very proud of him! And Jesse. Well, he can’t wait to get started in martial arts too! Once class started yesterday, Jesse stood in the back of the room and imitated EVERYTHING that the students were doing. He’s going to be my second karate kid one day soon!
