Mother's Day Afternoon

Mother's Day afternoon we went to visit Grandma & Da and hit the pool! What a great way to wrap up a wonderful Mother's Day!

And as an added bonus, Jesse started cannonballing into the deep end all by himself, a major milestone for him! He is growing up so fast!

Mother's Day was a busy day for the Tyre household. We attended church where the children's choirs once again showed off their fabulous talents.

Muffins with Mommy & More!

I must start out by saying that I am a very blessed woman. I am married to my best friend, a man who loves me, honors me, respects me and my opinions, and does his very best each and every day to provide his very best for me and our children. And I have the two best boys in the world. Boys who tell me that they are going to live with me forever and that they love me more than all the trees in the world. Boys who think I'm beautiful and awesome. Boys who are still very much Mommy's boys:-) And all three of them made Mother's Day Week very special for me! It started on Monday. I had been wanting a Blackberry for over a year. However, I hated to spend the money. Well, Monday, my three boys took me to the store and insisted that I get whatever phone that I wanted. And. I. LOVE. It. And here is the very first photo that took with my new phone!

Then Friday morning was Muffins with Mommy at Jesse's preschool. He was so excited to eat breakfast with Mommy at school!

Friday afternoon when Trey came home from karate, he just couldn't wait to give me his present, a picture that he had painted and had gotten Ah-ee to frame. It was an awesome gift. And. I. LOVE. It. And. It is proudly on display in our living room.

Then of course, Jesse wanted to paint Mommy a picture. So Friday night we broke out the easel and paints and I got two more beautiful paintings!

The Georgia Sea Turtle Center

On Monday, May 3rd, I took the day off from school and headed to Jekyll Island with the 1st and 2nd grades. Our destination was the Georgia Sea Turtle Center and this is one trip that I know we will be repeating this summer! Jesse really wanted to go with us, but I have made it a policy to keep field trips as special one on one time that I get to spend with Trey (& Jesse too now that he's in school:-). Trey, who was used to spending all his time with Mommy, started school when Jesse was only a few months old, so field trips became our special time, time when he didn't have to share me and where I could give him my undivided attention. Plus, it's so much easier to enjoy the trip without having to keep up with an infant/toddler/busy little boy! So we'll be going back during our beach vacation this year and I can't wait!

We headed off to Jekyll early with a long train of cars, parents, and kids following each other. Unfortunately, we let the wrong parent lead and wound up going about an hour out of our way. We arrived very late for our tour, but were still able to enjoy the hospital and learning all about these wonderful creatures.

Our first stop was a "classroom" where the students got to see sea turtle shells and learn all about them!

Then, Trey's teacher, was dressed like a sea turtle!

Next, we visited the hospital where we saw many turtles and learned about the illnesses and accidents that have brought them here.

We were so late getting to the center that we hurried through the tour. So we took a group photo of the first and second grades a few days after the trip.

The last three weeks of school were extremely busy!!! Between Jesse's class, Trey's class, & my 4th grade class I went on 4 field trips, attended Muffins with Mommy, preschool graduation, three end of school parties, and two honor's programs! Whew! And the craziness began on April 28th when we took the 4th and 5th grade to the Museum of Science and History in Jacksonville. We had a blast and I'm hoping to take Trey back sometime this summer.

The first floor exhibit was all about the human body. It included several "machines" that the students could manipulate and help them to "see" how the human body works.

There were also lots of real human organs in jars!

And a small aquarium.

The M.O.S.H. exhibits were very cool, as was the planetarium. However, the BEST part of our trip was the What's the Matter? science show! The scientist explored the 4 states of matter with the students and gave every one of them the chance to be involved. He used liquid nitrogen in many of his experiments & boy do I wish I could use it in my classroom!

In this experiment, he blew up several balloons and tied them off. He then put them in liquid nitrogen, which made the molecules of air contract until the balloons "looked" deflated. However, once he took them out of the liquid nitrogen & they began to warm up, they expanded again!



And here is our grand finale! Our scientist poured boiling liquid into the liquid nitrogen to produce a thunderstorm complete with thunder in the classroom. The video does not do it justice! The thunder does not come through as loud and booming as it was in person, and you can't see the rain drops. It was very, very cool!
