Campout at the church
We also had our annual campout at the church this past Friday night. So after the boys finished swimming and eating and playing we headed to the church to eat and play some more! We were a little late due to our end of summer party but we got there in plenty of time for the best part…S’MORES!
Aunt Lindsey also gave the boys light sticks for use at the campout and they had a blast running around with them! And not once did they ask for a flashlight. They probably didn’t want to see just how close they were to the graveyard!
Finally, after a long day of school, eating, swimming, eating, playing, and more eating my boys were beginning to show signs of tiredness. They put on their pajamas and crawled into the tent with Daddy…
but at the last minute my littlest camper decided that he was coming home to sleep with Mama!!! He said it was so he could get his gummy vitamins & read his Bible story but Mama knows it was because he would miss her too much, right??? Once home he got his gummies, we read his story, & then he snuggled up with his new stretchy skeletons (another gift from Aunt Lindsey) and went out like a light! Whew! What a day it was!

Heading Home
Amazingly enough we only spent one night at Vogel State Park!!! I know it’s hard to believe from my many, many photos but it’s true. We crammed a massive amount of exploring into our two day adventure and we had a great time! Phil was a groomsman in his cousin’s wedding on Saturday, so we headed towards home late Friday night and got in around 3AM. The boys fell asleep almost immediately and slept almost the whole way. And my poor Jesse kept talking in his sleep, saying that he was tired of walking. Bless his little heart, he’d played hard all day & was just exhausted! But he just couldn’t get comfortable. He was snoozing, but he kept moving around and complaining about his legs hurting. So when we stopped in Dublin for some caffeine for Daddy, I did something I NEVER do. I let him out of his booster seat and let him lay down. Mind you, he was still buckled in, but he was so much more comfortable laying in the seat under his towel and he snoozed soundly the rest of the way.

We made it to the wedding Saturday with little sleep, but it was well worth it. Even in his sleep deprived state, my hubby was still very handsome in his tux and made me very proud! In fact, all of us Tyre’s looked so snazzy all dressed up that we decided it was a great opportunity for a family photo.
Around the Park
I must admit I wasn’t quite sure what to expect from our camping trip. And. I wasn’t entirely looking forward to it. I am the first to admit that I am not the outdoorsy type. In fact, I don’t think I had ever slept in a tent before. But you do things for your kids that take you out of your comfort zone. And I am happy to admit that our camping trip was much better than I could have ever imagined. Vogel State Park is amazing! There was so much to see and do and it was so beautiful! The kids were completely entertained. They had plenty of kids to play with. And we got to spend time with some good friends. In the end, I wish we could have stayed longer. Well, there is one change I would make…I don’t mind sleeping in a tent but if there had been a hotel bathroom, I would have willingly stayed a week!
What a way to spend a weekend, enjoying God’s beautiful creation! I can’t wait to do it again.

Around the Campfire
Cooking while camping can pose some problems. Luckily our men were up to the challenge and turned out some scrumptious meals!
And of course no camping trip would be complete without roasting some marshmallows & making some smores!

Vogel State Park Beach
After hiking up Brasstown Bald the kids were ready to hit the beach and cool off! The water was still icy cold and the kids still didn’t care! Jesse had a great time swimming close to shore and playing in the sand so I got lots of photos of him. However, Trey & the rest of the big kids stayed all the way out at the barrier, well out of (decent) photo taking range.

Hiking Up Brasstown Bald
On the second day of our camping trip (June 4, 2010) we hiked to the highest point in Georgia, Brasstown Bald. It wasn’t a very long hike, but it was STRAIGHT UP! Oh. My. Goodness! I wasn’t prepared for that at all! We all made it, and it was absolutely beautiful, but next time I think I’ll take the shuttle.

More From Vogel State Park
As I told you a while back, we spent the first weekend in June camping at Vogel State Park in north Georgia. After a busy first day and a restful night in the tents, the kids were up bright and early and ready to play in the ICY COLD stream that ran right by our campsite. Luckily, the Dads were willing to step into that icy cold water because the Moms were staying safely on the banks.
The kids played, chased a snake, and helped one of the park rangers build up the rock walls to make little pools for little fish that they were putting into the stream. It was a laid back kind of morning, leading up to our big hike up Brass Town Bald.

Camping at Vogel State Park
We arrived at Vogel late Thursday afternoon. And it started raining almost immediately.While this was frustrating for the Dads who were setting up camp, it didn’t bother the kids at all. They had a blast playing in the rain and the stream. This water was icy cold, but the kids dived right in…and they stayed in the streams and therefore wet almost the entire time we were there. 
Jesse showed no fear and got right in, but it took Trey a little longer to warm up to the idea. And the Mamas…well, we took refuge on the covered bridge. It was the perfect place to stay nice and dry and capture all the fun on film.
